The Fitzgibbons Family: Good times, made locally – for almost 90 years.
Owning and running a family pub business is more than just a profession; it embodies shared values, camaraderie, and a passion for bringing people together.
The Fitzgibbons family is one of Queensland’s oldest and last remaining privately owned publican families, refining our craft and reputation for hospitality, service, value and dedication to the communities we’ve served over four generations.
Since the 1930s our family has owned and operated pubs throughout south east Queensland, including much-loved venues on the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba. Over generations, we have expanded our holdings to as far afield as Western Australia and South Australia, all the while retaining a foothold, and our heart and soul, on the Gold Coast.
Our legacy began in 1936, when Michael Alphonsus and Lily Kathleen Fitzgibbons bought the Coolangatta Sands Hotel (then the Kirabelle Hotel), sowing the seeds for what would become a multi-generation,
multi-branch publican family tree. Their two sons, Brian and Vincent, would each carry on the family tradition, heading their own publican families.
Vincent consolidated the family’s south east Queensland roots, owning and operating a series of hotels over the decades including the Scarborough Hotel, the Commercial Hotel in Redbank, the Mooloolaba and Maroochydore Hotels on the Sunshine Coast, and the Echo Beach nightclub on the Gold Coast – the latter remained in the family until the 1990s.
Vincent, his wife Denise and their children Vincent, Barry and Suzanne, branched out to expand the business nationally to Western Australia in 1975, the Old Spot Hotel and Red Lion Hotel in South Australia in 1993, and the Robina Tavern and the Logan City Tavern in the 1990s – the latter three remain Fitzgibbons family owned and operated.
Barry’s love of the Gold Coast and its outdoor lifestyle saw our family make even greater investments in the region when we undertook a massive upgrade of the Robina Tavern in 2020, creating the landmark Robina Pavilion. Our family’s passion, drive and commitment to the Gold Coast has seen the lakeside hotspot transformed into a cherished community hub, where people come together, and regulars are not just patrons but extended members of our family.
The Fitzgibbons family is proud of our legacy of giving back to the communities that have given us so much over the years, with Barry’s son Adam now leading the way in community engagement. Adam has been passionate about the family business from a young age and has made his mark on the Robina Pavilion by forging valuable and longstanding partnerships with local charities, sporting clubs and community groups including Baby Give Back, Guide Dogs Australia and the Bond Pirates Rugby Club.
Adam’s focus on the community has seen the Robina Pavilion become a real gathering place not just for fun and relaxation, but for community-building and supporting local causes.
Our family is part of the fabric of the Gold Coast. We employ, entertain and support locals and are proud to partner with the community to make our venues places where friends, family and communities come together to connect, create and share good times, made locally.
We look forward to welcoming you.
The Fitzgibbons Family.
